Glenmuir golf apparel fan Paul Lawrie has claimed people could be placing too much pressure on Rory McIlroy by comparing him with some of the game's greats.Lawrie noted a number of professionals have begun likening the new US Open champion to stars such as Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus - but warned such lavish praise could do more harm than good, Scottish paper the Sunday Mail reports.
The Scotsman said he was shocked at the reaction to McIlroy's eight-shot victory in the tournament, adding to pit him against somebody such as Nicklaus - who won 18 Majors - is a bit premature.
"I'm sure Rory may win more than one Major but the comments from others who have won Majors were surprising," he added.
Irish newspaper the Independent recently suggested McIlroy is influencing the golf fashion of younger fans as it appears a number of his supporters are now sporting his distinctive curly hairstyle.
