Ian Poulter, regularly clad in outlandish golf apparel when on the course, came close to picking up the victory in the Abu Dhabi Championship yesterday (January 24th).The Englishman and Martin Kaymer arrived at the final hole of the competition on 20-under-par, but Poulter missed his birdie putt, allowing the German to tap in from two yards and clinch the victory.
Commenting on his performance, Poulter said that it was a "nice start to the season".
He added that he is looking forward to donning his golf apparel in the Commercialbank Qatar Masters, which is teeing off at the Doha Golf Club on Thursday.
"I will move on next week in Qatar, have a bit of fun and see if I can go one step closer," he said.
Poulter turned professional in 1995 and currently sits in tenth place in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Kaymer is now world number six, following his triumph.
