Golf apparel clad Sterne heads up African Open leaderboard.
Published: 07 January 2010
South African golfer Richard Sterne is leading the African Open after the first round of the tournament, which is part of the PGA European Tour.Fellow South African golfers Van der Walt, Horne, Pappas and Coetzee are also on the leaderboard after the first round.
Sterne donned his golf apparel and won last year's African Open and he is hoping to repeat his success by teeing off to victory in the 2010 event.
Commenting on his 2009 success, he said: "There is definitely something different about a South African Open victory. As a young South African golfer, it's one of the most prestigious titles you can win. It's almost unbelievable to see your name engraved on that trophy."
The African Open is taking place at the East London golf course and according to a report on the African news source the Weekend Post, players are grappling with high winds - which could mean investing in a warm golf jumper is a wise move for competitors.
