Golf news: Rory McIlroy has been included in the New Year Honours List.

Having starred in his golf apparel throughout 2011, Rory McIlroy saw the year come to a fitting end as he was recognised in the New Year Honours List.The 22-year-old received an MBE for his performances on the fairways over the last 12 months, which included victory at the US Open Championship at Congressional County Club.
McIlroy displayed both his golf fashion and a steady nerve on the big occasion to emerge victorious in the second Major Championship of the season by eight shots - winning with a score of 16 under par 268.
The Northern Irishman - who turned professional in 2007 - said he was thrilled to be named in the Queen's prestigious list, noting it is very humbling to receive such recognition.
He stated: "Many people on the Honours list have made huge personal sacrifices and contributed significantly to society during their lives. I feel very fortunate to be in their company."
