St Andrews Links has made the golf news by being one of the first venues to commit to environmental accreditation.

St Andrews has made golf news by wanting to achieve GEO CertificationPlayers who get on their golf clothing and tee off at St Andrews Links may find that they feel more eco-friendly after it was revealed that the venue is committed to achieving GEO Certification.

The accreditation programme is from the Golf Environment Organisation (GEO) and aims to become the standard for sustainable golf.

It takes into account all of a venues' operations, including greenkeeping, facilities and clubhouses.

St Andrews' Old Course will be one of the first links put forward for accreditation.

Gordon Moir, director of greenkeeping at the venue, commented: "This accreditation programme is an excellent way of ensuring golf courses adopt this approach in a structured way and we look forward to working with the Golf Environment Organisation."

He added that the venue has a long tradition of sustainable operation and it is pleased to have the chance to set a good example.

Some of the world's top golfers will be donning their golf apparel at the links for the prestigious Open Championship, which is taking place from July 15th to 19th.
