Many of those who follow golf may have their own views on what is the greatest shot ever played by a golf apparel clad player putting in a major tournament. In a list compiled by Times writer Peter Dixon, shots made by golfers such as Gene Sarazen, Padraig Harrington and Severiano Ballesteros are among those that feature.
Speaking of the time when Harrington donned his golf clothing and took to the Royal Birkdale course in the 2008 Open Championship, Mr Dixon said that the golfer "threw caution to the wind" with his second shot of the day.
"He hit a perfect shot, shaping it from left to right and bringing the ball to within four feet of the hole, 272 yards away," Mr Dixon recalled.
This shot led him on to beat Ian Poulter, a golfer noted as much for his interesting taste in golf fashion as for his prowess on the course.
