More subtle golf fashion may be a better choice for GayOne sports writer has been left unimpressed by the golf apparel sported by golfer Brian Gay.

Writing for the Dallas News, Bill Nichols talks of the "astonishing metamorphosis" that saw Gay transform to a player of the standard of Tiger Woods while competing at last week's Verizon Heritage Classic.

Mr Nichols notes that the 10-stroke win from Gay is the biggest winning margin since Phil Mickelson was victorious in the 2006 Bell Classic.

However, despite the golfer's notable performance, readers are told that Gay "committed a heinous crime of fashion" in his choice of golf apparel.

According to the source he wore neon green golf trousers, white golf shirt and mirrored goggles.

"It marked one of the few times in golf history that a winner has looked better after donning the plaid jacket," Mr Nichols quips.

Golfer Henrik Stenson recently caused a stir when he stripped off his golf clothing mid-game, in order to retrieve a ball without getting his clothes muddy.
