Golfers are athletes too, argues one writer.Professional golfers who don their golf apparel and take to the course are athletes on the same level as runners or swimmers, it has been claimed.

Writing for the Buffalo News, Bob DiCesare says that "the time has come" for people to realise that both professional and high-calibre amateur golfers are athletes like any other.

Mr DiCesare goes on to note that when on the golf course, players often have to walk for more than four miles on ground that is often "less than countertop-flat".

As well as this, golfers also have to cope with high temperatures and "debilitating humidity", he says.

Before teeing off, golfers may find that checking the weather forecast is a wise move.

Certain golf apparel may be unsuitable for warmer weather but on a cold day, gamers may find an argyle golf sweater an ideal golf fashion piece to wear.

GolfZN notes that in cold and wet conditions, wearing thermal underwear and waterproof golf shoes is a good way to stay comfortable.
