Who will appear in Ryder Cup shirts this autumn? There are a lot of players who are good enough to line up in Ryder Cup shirts for Europe this autumn, according to golf legend Ian Woosnam.

Woosie, who is officially sponsored by Glenmuir, told the Scotsman it is important Colin Montgomerie's side do not go into the competition in too confident a mindset, despite being favourites.

In his view, when players hit the links in golf apparel over 18 holes, anything can happen, so it may be smart to start off quietly.

With regards to selection for the Ryder Cup, he noted that it is going to be hard for the captain to pick his three wild card selections.

Among the golfers who would have to qualify this way is Paul Casey, who finished joint third in The Open last weekend.

The golfer noted that there are more and more youngsters getting involved in the sport and suggested there has been a real shift over the past 20 years.

"With Tiger Woods, he's made it a sexy sport and everybody wants to be involved. You've got the [Ian] Poulters and other players like him, it's great," Woosie was quoted as saying.
