Jimenez made the golf news by winning the Omega Dubai Desert Classic yesterdayMiguel Angel Jimenez donned his golf clothing and put in a tournament-winning performance to pick up the Omega Dubai Desert Classic title at the Emirates Golf Club.

The flamboyant Spaniard needed a play-off to end Lee Westwood's challenge at the top of the leaderboard after they both finished their four rounds on 11-under-par.

He eventually clinched the win on the third play-off hole, taking advantage of the Englishman's inability to sink two championship putts to seal his 16th European Tour victory.

Nine of these triumphs have now come in his forties.

Commenting on this statistic, Jimenez said: "Like a good wine, with age, I get better and better."

He explained: "I have just turned 46 but I'm still healthy and still strong."

In addition, he went on to express his delight at having picked up the win in a destination that had previously provided him with few chances of success.

Thongchai Jaidee rounded off the top three by finishing one stroke behind on ten-under.
