Golf news: Branden Grace has picked up his first European Tour title.

Branden Grace sported purple golf apparel as he collected his first European Tour title.

The 23-year-old was victorious in the Joburg Open at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club - a course that has been in operation for almost 130 years - scoring a final round of 72 and leaving him with on 17 under.

Englishman Jamie Elson came close to stealing the crown with a 30-foot eagle putt on the final hole, but South African Grace was able to cling on with a scorecard reading 16 pars, one bogey and a single birdie.

He explained the victory was hard-fought, thanks in no small part to the difficulty he encountered when trying to judge the speed of the greens.

However, his control of the ball was enough to earn him the win and he observed: "It's a dream come true ... It's nice to win in front of a home crowd and I wouldn't exchange it for anything else."
