A purple ribbon will be attached to the golf clothing of all the players taking part in the LPGA event in Alabama, as a tribute to one of their fellow professionals who passed away at the weekend - Erica Blasberg. No matter what colour ladies' golf shirts are worn by the players for the tournament, they will no doubt be eager to wear one of the ribbons as a mark of respect to the woman, who was due to take part in a qualifier for the competition on Monday (May 10th).
US golfer Juli Inkster described how Blasberg was "part of the team", adding: " We just saw her two weeks ago in Morelia. I think everybody's like: 'it's a dream - it's not really happening'."
Twenty-five-year-old Blasberg had been in the US squad that won the Curtis Cup in 2004 and played as recently as two weeks ago on the LPGA Tour in Mexico.
