Golf players on the Ladies' PGA Tour have taken to wearing pink golf clothing while playing in an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer. In a recent Golf Week article, columnist Ashley Crain examined the golf fashion trend, which has been taken up after some of the sport's most well-known players were affected by the disease.
"[Breast cancer affected] players such as Darren Clarke, who lost his wife, Heather, to the disease in 2006, and Phil Mickelson's wife, Amy who battled through chemotherapy last year," she said.
Statistics compiled by Cancer Research UK reveal that breast cancer is the most common form of the disease in Britain, with incidence rates increasing by about 50 per cent within the last 25 years.
One renowned female golfer who has taken up the cause is Cristie Kerr, whose mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003.
This led her to form the charity Birdies for Breast Cancer which has raised over $650,000 (£415,000).
