Golf news: Luke Donald wants golf speed to increase.
Published: 11 January 2012
Luke Donald has called on golf apparel wearers to increase their speed around the course after suggesting slow players are damaging the game. The world number one - who turned professional in 2001 and counts Hemel Hempstead as his home town - made the claim after watching Jonathan Byrd take his time while performing in the final round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, the Scotsman reports.
Despite not mentioning anyone by name, the Englishman took to Twitter to voice his concerns after watching the tournament - in which Byrd took one minute and 45 seconds to hit a shot on one occasion.
He stated: "It's not that hard, be ready when it's your turn. Slow play is killing our sport."
Both golf apparel wearers and their caddies may therefore want to address the situation when out on the fairways in future, as Donald claimed officials are not to blame for the problem.
