What is your idea of the perfect golf course?A sports writer detailing his idea of a perfect 18-hole golf course has revealed his choices for the last nine holes.

Writing for the Irish Times, a golf mad journalist urges readers to forgive that "the eclectic 18-hole course which has found its way onto a blueprint to represent the ultimate parkland fantasy lay-out" is mostly made up of modern courses.

He says that the final course shows the wide variety of golfing venues which Ireland has to offer.

Before packing up their clubs and golf apparel and heading to the Emerald Isle, golfers may be interested to learn that the first hole on the fantasy course would be the start of the course at Carton House.

Finishing off the dream course would be hole 18 at Adare Manor golf course, with the source noting the hole's "undulating green".

Also in golf news this week, Journal Live reports that four junior members of the Romanby Golf and Country Club are to take part in a golf challenge to raise money for the Macmillan cancer cause.
