Phil Mickelson to make an emotional return to golf
Published: 03 June 2009
American golfer Phil Mickelson will have to don his golf apparel for an emotional return to the PGA Tour following a break to be with his wife during her cancer treatment.According to Golf World Magazine, the World Number Two ranked player may need to dust down his golf trousers for a planned return to the sport.
He reportedly plans to join the field for the St Jude Classic - running in Memphis from June 11th to 14th - as well as the US Open at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale the following week.
Mickelson's wife Amy was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and is scheduled to undergo surgery later in the month or in early July.
This has persuaded the 38-year-old to make a return to competitive golf and he can expect a warm and emotional welcome from other players on the tour.
In other news, Tiger Woods has said he is extra motivated ahead the Memorial Tournament in the US tomorrow (June 4th) after missing the event last year with a knee injury, reports Reuters.
