The new European Open champion.Golfers taking part in the European Open last weekend may have been glad of warm golf apparel after a windy day of play.

A number of players commented on the gusty conditions, notes Reuters, with Danish golfer Soren Hansen telling the source that the last few holes on the London Club course are "just brutal".

The player noted that the adverse weather conditions meant that getting a score of two or three under par was an achievement.

However, golf fans were not deterred from donning their own golf apparel and checking out the action at the event.

The news provider notes that this year's Open was attended by a record number of people.

French golfer Christian Cevaer was the eventual winner of the European Open, after clinching victory by one shot.

Cevaer was ranked as 449th in the world before his victory, which saw him rise up the ranks to become the world number 129.
