Ian Poulter is known for his distinctive golf clothingIan Poulter once again sported some eye-catching golf apparel as he took to the Pebble Beach course in California yesterday (June 17th).

Described as "golf's most fashion-conscious player" by the Sun, the world number nine dressed in a pink sweater, pink checked trousers and matching visor for the opening round of the US Open.

According to the newspaper, Poulter's choice of golf clothing suited his performance, as he "fought like a panther" during the early stages.

The Englishman eventually finished in a share of fourth place - one stroke off the lead - by carding a one-under-par 70.

After leaving the 18th green, the die-hard Arsenal supporter's thoughts soon turned to football.

"My big worry now is that I'm not going to be able to watch the whole of the England-Algeria match before I tee off in the second round," Poulter told the publication.

Paul Casey, Shaun Micheel and Brendon de Jonge shared the lead after the first day of the US Open, with all three players shooting a two-under 69.
