Published: 09 April 2010
Ian Poulter will be hoping to make the golf news over the weekend by becoming the first English winner of a major golf tournament since Nick Faldo in 1996, by triumphing in the Masters Tournament. And he got his campaign off to a great start yesterday (April 8th) by shooting a four-under-par 68.
He now finds himself two shots behind overnight leader Fred Couples and one back from Tom Watson, Lee Westwood, Phil Mickelson, K J Choi and Y E Yang, who are tied for second place.
His golf clothing also caught the eye in his opening round.
The flamboyant Englishman was dressed in colourful golf trousers and a matching light blue performance golf shirt.
Following his performance, he told the BBC: "There are a couple of great names on the leaderboard. Tom Watson was inspirational at the Open and Freddie Couples loves this golf course and it's fantastic to be part of it."
