A golf fashion pundit has examined a series of tweets exchanged between Paul Azinger and player of golf in Hertfordshire, Ian Poulter.Writing on the Chapeaunoir Golf blog, columnist Mike McAllister dissected the messages, which were prompted when Poulter commented on the oversized golf shirt worn by Azinger.
Responding to the barb, Azinger claimed that it was "the style back then" and he had to hide his tattoos.
Mr McAllister weighed in on the situation, predicting that the oversized golf polo is one style that will never become popular among players.
"When it comes to time-warped fashion choices, the 'it was the style at the time' defence has absolved us all of culpability at one point or another," he said.
This marks the second time in recent months Poulter has been involved in a heated Twitter exchange.
Last year saw the Hertfordshire golfer engage in a war of words over the micro-blogging website with Derby County footballer Robbie Savage.
