Golf clothing could become more popular if the two stars continue to light up the sportThe popularity of golf apparel could be on the rise if young players such as Ryo Ishikawa and Rory McIlroy continue to put in world-beating performances, since one commentator believes they are lifting the whole sport.

Writing for the Times Online, Peter Dixon highlighted how the two "young guns" produced incredible rounds on the same day - Ishikawa carding 58 to win his seventh Japan Tour title and McIlroy scoring 62 to win the Quail Hallow Championship.

He suggested that these sorts of showings are making people excited about the game again, which could lead to more demand for golf apparel.

"Suddenly people are discussing the future of the game and the exciting new rivalries that are being forged," explained the writer.

McIlroy gave a nod to Ishikawa's golf fashion after his win, describing him as "so cool" when he handles press and fan attention.

And Ishikawa kept up his glamorous style for his record-breaking win - the previous record being held by Masahiro Kuramoto - by wearing bold golf clothing like bright red sunglasses and visor.
