Rory McIlroy celebrates win in stripy golf clothing
Published: 04 May 2010
The 48 have been historic as far as the game of golf is concerned. This is according to sports writer Derek Lawrenson, who suggested that the world may have just witnessed one of the most exciting weekends ever in the game.
Writing for the Daily Mail, he said the magic began on Sunday (May 2nd), when 18-year-old Ryo Ishikawa claimed his fourth title on the Japan Tour.
Mr Lawrenson said the history continued when Rory McIlroy won for the first time in the US later that day and 17-year-old Italian Matteo Manassero signed a professional contract yesterday (May 4th).
McIlroy looked jubilant after his victory at the 2010 Quail Hollow Championship, sporting a stripy green shirt and a pair of cream golf trousers.
"To think, today is the Ulsterman's 21st birthday and for a present he has been given the key that unlocks the sport's future," Mr Lawrenson commented.
Speaking to the BBC after his triumph, McIlroy said that taking a break at home in Northern Ireland before the tournament helped to spur his win.
