Rory McIlroy is to display his golf fashion at the Irish Open.

Next year's Irish Open will see Rory McIlroy sporting his golf clothing after the youngster confirmed he will be taking part in the competition.

It is hoped the announcement will provide a timely boost for European Tour officials, as the search continues for a tournament sponsor.

McIlroy - who turned professional in 2007 - noted there has been a lot of speculation as to whether or not he will be participating in the event, but quashed any doubts by announcing he is to definitely wear his golf apparel for the meet.

"For me, the Irish Open has always been and will continue to be one of the most important events on the global golf calendar," the competitor observed.

He said winning the tournament is obviously something he would love to achieve at some point in his career, adding it is important Ireland puts on a good show when the gathering rolls around - both for the home fans and the supporters across the globe.
