Shane Lowry ready for his professional golf debut

Published: 27 May 2009

Shane Lowry is set to make his professional debut as a golfer on Thursday (May 28th) in the European Open tournament.

The 22-year-old Irishman will join England's Anthony Wall and fellow Irishman Paul McGinley for the 12:40 BST session at the Pro-Am tournament at Kent's London Club.

This follows his dramatic European Tour win at the Irish Open earlier in May to become just the third amateur golfer to secure a victory on the tour.

Ahead of turning professional, Lowry also entered the world rankings at 168th place and also reached sixth place in the world amateur rankings.

Also in the upcoming tournament, world top five golfers Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia will join defending champion Ross Fisher for the early morning session.

Garcia will have a point to prove after coming second to the English golfer in the tournament last year, while this is also the first time he has played in Europe this season.
