In the run-up to Christmas, people looking for golf gifts for Russian friends - or for British ones - might like to look to tartan golf clothing.

Tartan golf clothing could combine two of Russia's favourite things about Scotland into a single garment.

A number of Russians were recently awarded visits to Edinburgh through a collaborative promotion by tourism body VisitScotland and drinks brand Irn-Bru.

VisitScotland explains that members of the Russian public are enthusiastic about a range of Scottish pursuits, including golf and whisky.

They tend to hold a stereotypical view of the Scots as a race, too - which could make tartan golf clothing the ideal golf gift for a Russian friend this Christmas.

Sinead Feltoe, VisitScotland regional director, says: "Our research shows that visitors favour luxury and high-end products and that our breathtaking scenery, fascinating history and unique culture appeals to them."

Other interests held by Russian fans of Scottish culture include castles and "a warm view" of the Scots themselves.

Golf gifts could be ideal for British friends too in the run-up to Christmas this year.
