US Ryder Cup team experience golf clothing failureWales' wet weather has prompted the 2010 US Ryder Cup team to purchase new golf apparel.

After the day's play was suspended following only two hours on the course, many US players were complaining to team captain Corey Pavin about the state of their wet-weather golf apparel.

"We were disappointed with the performance of [our waterproofs] and you know, we just fixed it," he said.

The American team was forced to head to the suppliers of the Europeans, which generously provided them with wet-weather golfing apparel, better suited to the Welsh climate.

In a boon for the European team's suppliers, Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy broke Colin Montgomerie's ban on tweeting in order to complement the performance of his waterproofs.

The first day's play was called off after overnight rainfall flooded the pitch. Chief referee for the European Tour John Paramor warned that officials face an "uphill battle" in restarting play.
