Professional golfer Tiger Woods earned $117 million (£83 million) last year from his on course performance as well as off course earnings to do with golf clothing lines and endorsement deals.According to the Golf Digest 50, Woods earned $7.7 million from tournaments but nearly $110 million off the course.
Endorsements by golf apparel brands and similar companies always mean "big bucks" in golf.
Golf Digest reports that the "opportunities for added value" are not as great in a sport such as Major League Baseball as they are in golf.
The site says that only players who achieve the same status as a player such as Derek Jeter get national level endorsement deals.
Furthermore, Golf Digest notes that the winner's share in the World Series 2007 was $308,236 - but golfer Jim Furyk got a similar amount for coming 11th in the FedEx Cup.
Tiger Woods is due to speak at the inauguration of president-elect Barack Obama today.
