Woosnam would have included Paul CaseyFormer Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam has questioned European skipper Colin Montgomerie's decision to leave world number eight Paul Casey from his 2010 team.

Speaking to the Western Mail, he called the ruling 'a little strange' and said that Casey would have provided a valuable advantage against an American team featuring players famed for their hitting distance.

"Someone had to be left out and it was a difficult job," he told the publication, "Paul Casey would have been in my fantasy team, let's put it that way."

His comments come after American Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin announced his remaining wildcard picks for the event as Rickie Fowler, Steward Cink, Zach Johnson and Tiger Woods.

Woosnam said that the "strongest" possible team would be required for the event and claimed that, during his captaincy for the event, he opted for strong team players.

The Glenmuir-sponsored golfer said that Montgomerie was faced with "impossible" decisions after players such as Padraig Harrington and Justin Rose chose to participate in many American events, reducing their ability to qualify automatically.
