Golf news: Game more accessible to wide range of childrenGovernment figures have shown that funding given to the Golf Foundation has successfully brought the game into the lives of children from a wide range of backgrounds.

According to the newly released PE and Sport Survey, which looks at the activity levels and sports participation of children in England, the number of schools giving children the chance to play golf rose from 23 per cent back in 2005 to more than 40 per cent in 2008-2009.

The Golf Foundation goes into schools across the country to encourage educational establishments to see the game as a good option for PE lessons and has seen many schools forge links to golf clubs and driving ranges.

Parents with children who have been introduced to the game through sports lessons at school could find that golf clothing is an ideal gift.

Polo-style golf shirts are a worthwhile buy for children as such items can be worn on and off the golf course.
