Scottish golfer Catriona Matthew is to be awarded an MBE after being included in the Queen's New Year's Honours List. This year, Matthew had success in major tournaments and donned her golf apparel to win the Ricoh British Open less than three months after giving birth to her daughter Sophie.
As well as winning the Open, Matthew was crowned the Ladies European Tour Players' Player of the Year earlier this month. She was also nominated for the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year.
Commenting on her MBE, she said: "This is a wonderful surprise and a fantastic end to what has been a very special year. Having had Sophie in May, I never envisaged winning a major golf championship this year."
Talking to BBC Radio Scotland this week, the golfer said that she hoped her win will encourage girls to don their golf clothing and take to the golf course.
