According to online resource Get Surrey, amateurs at the Sutton Green Golf Club in Woking have come together over the last year to collect a total of £10,000 for cancer charity The Fountain Centre, which is based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.

Captains of the club Alan George and Sue Taylor spearheaded this fundraising drive through the creation of a wide range of events, including a special charity day where items such as a football signed by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson were auctioned for the good cause.

Meanwhile, all golf apparel wearers going round the course - which was designed by former female world number one Laura Davies and opened in 1994 - agreed to donate 50p should their ball find its way into the water on the 16th hole.
