Golfer first Scottish female to win major titleGolfer Catriona Matthew has become the first Scottish woman to scoop a major title win, after beating a player known for her love of pink golf clothing.

Matthew - who took to the course in a pink golf shirt herself - was victorious over US golfer Paula Creamer, who is known as the Pink Panther due to her love of pink golf apparel.

Creamer came joint third alongside Christina Kim, Ai Miyazato and Hee-Won Han.

Australian Karrie Webb, who has so far won seven major tournaments, came second to Matthew.

She has also won the British Open three times.

Matthew said: "There have been times when I've wondered if I was ever going to win a major. I thought time was beginning to run out."

However, Matthew was modest in her win, claiming that she did not play at her best, but conceding that she " holed vital putts for birdies at the 13th and 14th".
