Women golfers should ditch their skimpy golf clothing, a writer has suggested.Interest in golf trousers among female players could be set to increase after a journalist suggested women on the LPGA Tour ditch their skimpy shorts.

Writing for Golf Week's fashion blog, Ashleigh Korzack stated that she has noticed a number of sportswomen, such as Michelle Wie, Natalie Gulbis and Hee Young Park, taking to the course wearing tiny items of golf clothing.

However, she explained that while such golf apparel might get more spectators, players should consider wearing more traditional garments - like golf trousers or sweaters for example.

She added that it should be "great golf and love for the game" and not revealing fashion that is the "key factor to the LPGA's success".

Ms Korzack went on to applaud Ian Poulter's all-pink outfit on the last day of the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.

The Englishman beat compatriot Paul Casey in the final of the Arizona tournament.
