Barbie could make golf clothing more popular among girls. The number of women and girls in need of ladies golf shirts or knitwear could be set for a big boost as a result of a new campaign to get females into the sport.

According to the LPGA, a partnership has been struck between famous toy brand Barbie and one of its players Brittany Lincicome - who won the first major championship of last season, the Kraft Nabisco Championship - which will see them work together to get more girls onto the fairways.

Commenting on the news, Sarah Buzby, director of marketing at the doll manufacturer, said: "We see Brittany as a fantastic role model for girls and know that she, along with Barbie, can inspire girls to live an active lifestyle and encourage them to get out on the course."

And with clinics set to be hosted by the golfer combined with the potential influence the toymaker could have on girls around the world, it could be that top-quality golf apparel suppliers such as Glenmuir find their fashionable golf sweaters, waterproofs and trousers in high demand in no time.
