Amateurs are more likely to try different golf apparel trends than professionals, it has been suggested.

Amateurs being more adventurous with their golf apparel? People might like to follow Fred Couples and Ryan Moore in being a little more adventurous in terms of the golf apparel they choose.

Bloomberg notes that professional players have been slow to adopt the spikeless footwear worn by Couples when he was at the top of the leaderboard during last year's Masters tournament, despite a number of amateurs giving them a try.

The news source states some golfers have concerns that traction could be lost when they swing for shots - sometimes at speeds of up to 125mph - if they are not wearing spikes, while others are tied to contracts.

Moore, 30, followed the trend set by Couples at Augusta but he admitted that "guys are wearing what they're told to wear".

"You don't get as much choice as people think," he added.

Canyon City's Friday Flyer recently reported that amateurs turning up at a Golf Demo Day held at Canyon Lake Country club were informed they must stick to its rules about what can be worn on the course.
