A commentator has argued that Barack Obama should be afforded more opportunities to wear his golf clothingBarack Obama should hit the links in his golf clothing more often.

This is the view of the Guardian's political columnist Michael Tomasky, who underlined how it is important that the US president is given a chance to get away from it all now and again.

The correspondent said it was "silly" that Obama's predecessor George W Bush denied himself more time on the links during his time in the White House, explaining that even the most powerful man in the world needs to let off steam.

"People in pressure jobs need to relax - I think everyone grants this. Obama should play more golf," Mr Tomasky remarked.

Earlier this year, unofficial White House statistician Mark Knoller calculated that Obama has already taken to the fairways more times that Bush during his time in the Oval Office.

The CBS radio correspondent claimed Obama has sported golf clothing on the links over 30 times since gaining power in January 2009, while his predecessor managed only 24 trips during his eight years in office.
