A charity event saw players wear strange gold apparelFew courses would allow players to wear golf apparel such as bathrobes and slippers.

However, bosses at Epsom, Chipstead and Surrey Downs links made an exception for a 16-strong Prince of Wales pub golfing society which raised cash for charity recently.

The squad played 72 holes across the three courses to boost the coffers of Royal Marsden Hospital Children's Unit and the Sutton Stroke Club to the tune of £7,000, reports the Sutton Guardian.

In order to complete the marathon effort, they began their rounds at 04:00 BST wearing their bedclothes, rounding off the event at 21:00 BST.

They estimate they trudged around 20 miles during their day-long game of golf, but still had a lot of fun.

One of the players, Micky Martin, remarked: "We would like to thank the golf clubs for making their facilities available to us. And our wives for providing drinks and back-up support."

Last year, a group of cabbies hit the headlines after sporting golf apparel during a charity event at three of their local courses.

They raised cash for the Sick Kids' Hospital in Edinburgh, reports the East Lothian Courier.
