Ian Woosnam shot a first round of 70 at the tournament.

Glenmuir-sponsored professional Ian Woosnam has made a good start in his defence of the Handa Cup trophy he claimed last year in Japan.According to the Shropshire Star, Woosnam - who wears specialist Glenmuir golf apparel while on the course - shot an opening round of 70 to post two under par in the Asian tournament, which is co-sanctioned by the European Seniors Tour.
However, the Glenmuir-backed player has some work to do to get himself in contention to retain his crown in the three-round competition, as French counterpart Marc Farry and home favourite Katsuyoshi Tomori shared the lead on six under par at the Ohmuraski Golf club in Saitama.
However, Woosnam - who was born in the Shropshire town of Oswestry and captained the successful European team at the 2005 Ryder Cup at the Belfry - will hope to draw on his wealth of experience to rise up the leaderboard in his next two rounds.
