Golfers often wear outlandish colours on the course.Golf apparel lets mean wear colours that they might not usually choose in their everyday life, it has been claimed.

According to the Times, golf wear "allows men to enjoy a little flirtation with colours and patterns that they may otherwise feel a bit awkward wearing".

The writer uses an example from the James Bond film Goldfinger, talking of a scene where Bond plays a game of golf with the villain of the movie, Auric Goldfinger.

They note that the villain's golf apparel consists of brown plus-fours, with a matching cap and a yellow cardigan, commenting that he looks almost like a cartoon character.

According to the report, fashion for the modern male golfer "excuses a touch of exhibitionism", commenting that golf clothing collections from some brands feature citrus yellows, reds and "sporty stripes".

In related news, PoloShirts.co.uk recently reported that the game of golf has its own clothing culture.
