Past champions of the Open tournament are set to don their golf clothing and head to world famous golf course St Andrews to play in a special event to mark the 150th anniversary of the occasion, it has been announced.According to the official Open website, former champions will play at the course on Wednesday July 14th, the evening before players are set to put on their golf clothing and play in the 2010 Open.
All 32 Open champions who are living have been invited to play in the event, the source said.
The special game will be broadcast on the BBC, so golf fans at home will be able to see all the famous faces competing in their golf apparel.
"The Open Champions' Challenge in 2000 was a great success and we expect it to be so again a decade on in 2010. We hope that the majority of our former champions will accept the invitation and join us in St Andrews to help commemorate this very special occasion," said David Hill, director of championships at the R&A.
