Star's golf apparel clad victory described as decade's best

Tiger Wood's victory at the 2008 US Open has been described as the "event of the decade" on the golf course by one Reuters sports writer.

According to Mark Lamport-Stokes, the golfer's "extraordinary playoff victory" when he donned his golf clothing and took to the course at Torrey Pine is the event of the decade in the sport.

Mr Lamport-Stokes went on to call the win one of the biggest triumphs ever seen on the golf course and noted that Woods played with a number of injuries at the tournament.

"He defied intense pain in his left knee and a double stress fracture in his shinbone to beat Rocco Mediate at the 19th extra hole," he pointed out.

Woods was recently voted the Player of the Decade by the Associated Press and has been ranked as the best golfer in the world for the last 238 weeks, according to the Official World Golf Ranking.
