Girvan Golf Club is marking 15 years since Jim Hastings dropped his golf trousers and ran down the fairway in an attempt to escape from an angry wasp.

The Carrick Gazette reports that August 2009 marks the 15th anniversary of a memorable incident in which one player's golf trousers fell victim to the stinging revenge of a wasp.Jim Hastings was playing in the 1994 Stevenson Trophy at Girvan Golf Club when he suffered a stinging reprisal from a wasp that left him hopping up the fairway without his golf trousers.
He was forced to debag after the winged creature discovered the interior of his clothing and exerted its stinging powers inside.
Minutes earlier, Mr Hastings had angered the wasp and its cohort when one of his shots disturbed a nest that had been built by the creatures by the course.
The risk of suffering a sting was worsened by the fact that the nest - and Mr Hastings' ball - were in the middle of a patch of nettles.
Girvan Golf Club is just one of the courses on Scotland's "golf coast" of South Ayrshire.
Promotional group for the region Golf South Ayrshire adds that the area is the "home of Open Golf".
