Job applicants at an IT firm may need to wear golf clothing if they wish to secure a position with the company.

Could golf clothing be needed at a job interview at an IT firm?Although golf clothing can be highly smart attire, it is hardly the first thing many job candidates would pull out of their wardrobe for an interview.

However, those applying for a position with Southampton IT firm Peer 1 Hosting may wish to opt for this type of apparel, as a round on the company's course awaits them during the selection process, reports HR Magazine.

Showing aptitude on the indoor fairway apparently allows assessors to judge a person's temperament and ability under pressure, skills which are likely to be needed if candidates' applications are successful.

Areas which are particularly scrutinised include recovering concentration after missing a putt and the ability to multitask.

Managing director at the firm Dominic Monkhouse told the news provider that a round of golf is preferable to "sitting in a sweaty meeting room".

He added: "A can-do personality is the only thing that will ensure our teams provide outstanding service to our customers. Nothing shows a candidate's true colours better than getting competitive."

Of course, putting on golf clothes can be a great way to relax after work - Guardian commentator Michael Tomasky recently suggested US president Barack Obama should hit the links more often to let off steam.
