Smooth Shave Cleans Up At Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship Qualifier

Craig Shave continued his fine run of form when he came on top in the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship North West Region Qualifier at Hesketh.
Leicestershire-based Shave may have looked like he was on unfamiliar territory as he took the honours at Southport.
But the 2009 Midland Order of Merit Champion knew precisely what he was doing as he qualified once more for the final which will be played over 72-holes at The Oxfordshire, from August 10-13.
Shave, from the Whetstone club, could not play in the Midland qualifier this year.
His Order of Merit title means he qualified for the BMW event at Wentworth which clashes with the Little Aston event, so Shave chose Hesketh to launch this year’s assault on the Glenmuir which is also supported by Peugeot and MPI Financial Services.
Shave shot five under to finish three shots clear of Windermere’s Simon Edwards.
“It’s a course I fell in love with to be honest,” said Shave who already has a number of wins to his name this year.
“I played there in a betterball event a few years back and hit 10 under.
“So when I saw Hesketh was there, I decided to come back. It’s a course that suits me and it was good to me again.”
Shave admitted he had to recover from a bad start - but then got into his stride on a day when only three plays went under par.
“I bogeyed the first but even then I didn’t do a lot wrong as I found a bunker,” he said.
“It wasn’t easy out there, but this isn’t a course where you smack it a long way, you have to place it.”
Shave is now looking forward to playing The Oxfordshire where he hopes conditions will be better than at last year’s Glenmuir final at Dundonald: “I got the wrong side of the draw and went out in some of the worst conditions I’ve ever played golf in,” he said.
“I was just glad to make the cut then, but I played The Oxfordshire a couple of years ago and it’s a great course.”
Lee Park’s Chris Crowder finished on one under par as 10 players qualified for the final.
