Planning the perfect golf day out

Time on the course can be like gold dust in our time-poor age – so make sure you make the most out of it with the perfect golfing day out.

While many people try and fit in golf around their life – popping for a quick round in the morning or hitting the driving range after work – sometimes you’ve got to make your life fit around your golf. And this means putting a little planning and effort into creating the perfect golfing day. Here are our tips to get you started…

Pick your team
This perfect day out isn’t just for a friend who’s played a couple of times, or the time to introduce someone to the great game. This is a day out for golfers who not only love the game as much as you do, but who are a similar skill level. After all, it may just be a game but you’ll want it to be an interesting one.

We suggest a group of no more than four – this means you’ll have plenty of playing time without too much waiting around. Plus, finding more than four such players with free diaries can pretty hard!

Research the location
While your local course might be great for a quick round, if you’re planning a perfect golfing day then you will want to select one of your bucket list courses. This might mean being a bit flexible with timings or going as far as to make a weekend of it.

Chat with your group to see where people would love to play and give the courses a call explaining your situation. If any of your team are members of the courses, then even better.

Add on some extras
It’s not just about the golf - especially if you’re planning to make it a weekend break. If the venue you’ve picked is part of a hotel or complex, then see what else is on offer. This could be a session in the sauna afterwards, cocktails at the best table in the clubhouse or a slap up meal for the whole group.

And on the course, why not treat yourself to some golf buggies or a caddy? You could even hire a pro for the day to take your round the course and give you some tips.

Dress to impress
If there’s ever an occasion to spoil yourself with some new golf wear or accessories then this is it. After all, you don’t want to turn up with tatty shoes or worn out golf balls.

Whether you choose a new golf glove, a luxurious cashmere sweater to keep you warm after the game or some waterproof trousers to prevent you from getting soaked through in the likely downpour, you won’t regret spending a little bit more to make the day extra special.

Time for the game
In all this planning don’t forget to save plenty of time for the game itself. Take pleasure in the course and take your time – after all, it might be the only time you get to play such a course.  You could even be super indulgent and book two rounds…
