The new season is about to begin with the 2018 European Tour, and we can look forward to plenty of new faces joining the more familiar golfers. Golf is never predictable, and we’re always on the lookout for the rising stars of the sport. Here’s who we’ll be watching on this year’s tour…

Connor Syme
Scottish golfer Connor Syme turned professional in September last year after a well-defined amateur career. Straight away, he’s earned a place in the top 15 at the Portugal Masters and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, finishing with just three bogeys at the former – which makes us think that he’s certainly one to watch.

Shubhankar Sharma
Indian Shubhankar Sharma has already won twice in the 2017/18 season, which makes him a tour de force on the European Tour. He won the Joburg Open back in December three strokes ahead of his rival, Erik van Rooyen, and secured a full European Tour card off the back of it. He also mastered the Maybank Championship in February and broke into the world top 100 with a spot at number 72.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout
You might not have heard of Christiaan Bezuidenhout before, but the South African golfer and Sunshine Tour 2017 Rookie of the Year is set to make waves this year. Few expected Bezuidenhout to score a European Tour card, but after an excellent round of 67 and a birdie at the Spanish Tour School, his fate was sealed. The Challenge Tour regular is yet to achieve a top ten finish, but he has plenty of promise.

Thomas Detry
Belgian Thomas Deltry’s life has been grounded in golf, and the steady player looks to be picking his way through tournaments to reach the top of the European Tour. While Deltry is yet to win on the tour, he did win a professional event on the Challenge Tour in 2016, and he’s yet to finish outside the top 40 in any event he’s played so far this season.

European Tour Rising Stars

Haotong Li
China’s record-holding golfer Haotong Li scored the lowest round ever by a Chinese golfer in a major, but that mean feat isn’t the only star on his record. Li raced up the leaderboard at the 2017 Open Championship with a final round of 63, securing him third place and an invite to the Masters. Li currently stands at number 42 in the Official World Golf Rankings and 10th in the Race to Dubai standings, with plenty of other international acclamations to boot. Watch this space.
