Following a final day rally from the US team, the Ryder Cup returned to the other side of the Atlantic, leaving the European team disappointed after a potential comeback from the likes of McIlroy and Westwood failed to materialise.
But we’re not so interested with the result, more the style in which the game was won – or lost. We take a look at what was worn over the three days and show how you can get the look on your local course.
Day 1
The look… Back in Blue
The European team came out of the blocks looking smart and ready to go. Decked out in dark navy, they added a touch of lightness to the outfit with a pale blue shirt, with just the collar poking out from the navy sweaters.
Worn best by…
Europe team captain Darren Clarke. The grey-haired style icon looked sharp in his full-on navy ensemble.
Get the look…
This is a look that’s easy to recreate on your local fairway, and one that easily transfers to the clubhouse. It looks great away from the golf club too.
The combo of dark and pale blues is classic, though if you’re moving it from the course to the high street we’d suggest ditching the white golf shoes for a pair of smart brown brogues.
Choose our classic Merino zip neck sweater, which comes in navy. Or, there’s the option of the Merino sleeveless sweater, for a more relaxed approach. Underneath, we’d suggest our light blue golf polo shirt. For the trousers, we’ve got the perfect pair of adjustable stretch golf trousers in navy.
Finish off the look with a knitted hat or a cotton cap, both available in navy.

Day 2
The look…Going grey gracefully
On the second day, the team toned things down and embraced one of autumn 2016’s biggest trends - classic grey. Pale grey polo shirts were combined with almost charcoal grey trousers for a look that showed they meant business.
Worn best by…
Rory McIlroy, who was involved in a gladiatorial – and sartorial – battle with Patrick Reed in the final round. And, despite McIlory holing an amazing 60-foot birdie putt on the eighth, it was Reed who won the golfing battle. McIlroy can however take solace in the fact he won in the style stakes.

Get the look…
As the sun shone on the course, the European team in large ditched the jumpers and went for just polo shirt and trousers. But as we’re approaching autumn and the weather is cooling, we’d add the classic merino wool button front cardigan to our wardrobe.
Coming in light grey, it’d go perfectly over either the Lomond lambswool v neck sweater in the same colour or our stardust coloured polo shirt.
For trousers, you could take it a shade darker with our black adjustable stretch golf trousers, with a grey mix knitted hat or white cotton cap.

Day 3
The look… Tahitian blues
The outfit worn by Team Europe fell somewhere between the first day’s dark navy and the second day’s grey. The dusty grey/blue is best captured in our Tahitian range – a vibrant blue that’ll catch the eye and add some zest to your autumn wardrobe.
Worn best by…
Thomas Pieters. The Belgian had a great tournament, becoming the first rookie to register four points at the Ryder Cup. And he did it in style.

Get the look…
Go for matching colours to make the most of this look, combining the classic cotton golf polo shirt with either our supersoft cotton v neck sweater, or the cotton v neck sleeveless golf sweater. All these come in Tahitian blue.
Combine them with our classic navy adjustable stretch golf trousers with a cotton golf cap, also in navy.
