The Danny Willet style guide

He’s one of the country’s bright new golfing hopes and will be showcasing his style in Rio this summer. We take a look at Danny Willett’s sartorial choice, on and off the course.

He appeared as if out of nowhere, winning the 2016 Masters and catapulting himself up the world rankings and onto the plane to Rio. The boy from Rotherham will now be representing his country at the first Olympic Games to include golf for 112 years. And while it’s his playing style that has earned him a spot on Team GB, his fashion style isn’t too shabby either.

On the course

Danny likes to keep it classic and clean on the course, sticking with traditional colour schemes. His go-to colours are blues and whites, whether a well-tailored navy polo with white chinos or vice versa.

He likes to add a touch of colour every now and then, whether it’s the red zip-up top on cooler days or the fortuitous green top he chose to wear on the day he picked up the Masters championship and traditional green jacket.

But while his outfits might not seem anything special, it’s the fit that makes them stand out from the crowd. Each piece seems tailor-made for him, with the polo’s hugging his figure and the trousers the perfect length.

Going casual

Off the course, Danny likes to mix things up a bit. On his and his wife’s Twitter feed, he can often be spotted wearing the classic white shirt, beige chino look – and carrying it off like a pro, thanks to perfectly-fitting shirts and a simple belt.

Other times, he opts for the t-shirt and jeans combo, favoured by off-the-clock golfers worldwide, sometimes smartening the look up with a white shirt and nice grey suede slip-ons.

In fact, his white shirt is a go-to for a number of occasions – and we can’t blame him as it should be a staple of any man’s wardrobe.

Smartening up

Given the chance, Danny is happy to drop the golfing gear, or t-shirts and jeans, and get himself dolled up for special occasions.

Though his outfit at a recent wedding he attended with wife Nicole brought some of his relaxed styling to the table, ditching the tie and going for an open collared shirt and waist coat combo.

But he can also bring the smarts when needed, looking dapper in a classic tuxedo and bow tie, or throwing on a three piece suit and tie when the occasion demands it.

Going Green

Was it coincidence or a premonition? On the final day of the 2016 Masters, with Jordan Spieth leading the pack, Willet decided that it’d be a great day to wear his pale green polo shirt – a similar shade to the jacket the winner of the competition would be presented with.

Spieth was five shots ahead of the pack and looking good before a personal horror show, combined with Willett’s run of unstoppable form, saw him drop the lead and the young man from Yorkshire come out on top.

And didn’t he look good wearing the green Masters jacket…
