The famous US-Europe showdown will take place at Medinah Country Club, Illinois, US between 28-30 September.

Lawrie will be joined by fellow Europeans Rory McIlroy; Justin Rose; Graeme McDowell; Paul Lawrie; Francesco Molinari; Luke Donald; Lee Westwood; Peter Hanson and Sergio Garcia, who have automatically qualified via the European and World points lists.

The 10th qualification spot will be determined this weekend at the Johnnie Walker Championship held at Gleneagles.

The final qualification spot is currently occupied by Germany's Martin Kaymer, though this weekend's championship could see Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Nicolas Colsaerts or David Lynn overtaking him if they perform well.
Captain, José Maria Olazábal, who has already named three of four vice captains - Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley and Thomas Bjørn - also has two wildcard options which will be announced with the confirmed line up on Sunday evening.

Current World number 34, Lawrie, said of his qualification: "I'm chuffed to be in, obviously. It's been a long time. It's been 13 years since I played last time, so [I] can't wait."

Lawrie made his first and only appearance so far in the European Ryder Cup team in 1999 following his victory at The Open Championship.

Glenmuir Marketing Director, Brian Mair, said: "Many congratulations to Paul Lawrie, the Glenmuir sponsored Tour player, for making the 2012 European Ryder Cup Team. As preferred supplier of shirts and knitwear to the European Ryder Cup Team we are thrilled that Paul will be representing Europe for the second time in his career."
