Glenmuir Welcomes MSP And Celebrates Long-Distance Order

Scotland-based Glenmuir, one of Europe’s leading golf apparel companies, opened its doors to Clydesdale MSP Karen Gillon recently as it celebrated success at home and abroad.

The Lanark company enjoyed a landmark October with a significant order for golfwear from Tasmania and the European Ryder Cup Team, wearing Glenmuir shirts and knitwear, regained the famous trophy by beating the USA.

As part of fact-finding visit to successful Scottish companies, Mrs Gillon heard how Glenmuir played a key role is supporting the European Ryder Cup success. The company has been a Preferred Supplier to the team since 1987.

And she learned how Glenmuir is growing its profile as a leading international golfwear brand by supplying a significant order to its farthest customer - the stunning two-course Barnbougle Dunes GC in Tasmania, Australia – and appointing distributors in India and Canada recently.

Said Mrs Gillon: “I am pleased to see that Glenmuir is doing very well in these difficult times. It was great to see how the factory in Lanark works and to meet the highly-skilled local people who are making the company such as success.

“This is an industry very close to my heart and of much interest to me, as my family has a history in the knitwear industry.”

Glenmuir marketing director, Brian Mair, said the company was pleased to welcome Mrs Gillon, Shadow Minister for Rural Development, and was delighted she showed a keen interest in the success of local Clydesdale companies.

Said Brian: “These are tough economic times and Mrs Gillon was pleased to see a company in her constituency doing so well on an international scale.

“We are a significant employer in the area and she was genuinely proud of the efforts all our staff are making to continue to grow and establish Glenmuir as a leading golf brand.”
